Anne has been one of my most consistent clients since starting with us a few years ago. When she started, she had a hard time getting on and off the ground and she was generally deconditioned. In just a few short months, Anne began showing improvements both physically AND mentally. Now, shes a completely different person than when she started. She's one of our hardest workers and is always showing off her dance moves and bringing smiles to other members. We are so proud of her and her resiliency! Way to go, Anne!

If there was one thing you could say to your Coach, what would it be?

First and foremost I would like to thank Jesus and Annette for their vision to create a space where people can meet their fitness and nutritional goals in a safe and encouraging environment. I would also like to thank the Coaching staff for their encouragement and support! Coach Karina, thank you for guiding me with your expertise and encouragement on my journey to being able to exercise pain free and in the process get my life back. My experience at Resilient has been life changing! I cannot thank you enough!

What was the moment that made you decide to join Resilient Fitness?

I was experiencing debilitating hip pain which made everyday activities hard to do and because of that I spent a great deal of time laying down. My muscles had atrophied and I was very weak. I saw a surgeon who said you do not need surgery, you need to move. Easier said than done when you are in pain. A friend told me to check out Resilient Fitness’s website. I was intrigued by the offer of a no sweat consultation with Jesus for pain free training. Was this possible? Could I really exercise again without being in pain?

What is your fitness/nutrition experience prior to RF?

I have been an athlete my entire life. My chosen sport was tennis and I rose through the ranks of junior tennis to compete  4 years as a professional on the Women’s Professional Circuit achieving a career high world ranking of 177 in 1977.  After I left the tour I coached for 10 years.

I was training for a tennis career in the “no pain no gain” era and though it was the mantra back then and I did get stronger I never really enjoyed the process. Nutrition for athletes was in its infancy in the 1970’s.

I have always eaten good unprocessed food but with my inactivity and depression came a dramatic loss in appetite which has been a struggle to regain. Being able to exercise again

has increased my appetite and I have more fuel to burn in the gym.

What were your fitness habits like before joining RF? Were you already active? Were you new to fitness?

Due to back and hip issues I had not been active for about 12 years though I was not new to fitness.

Why do you think RF worked so well for you compared to other programs and instruction?

I was ready to try anything to feel better, ready to make a commitment to my health even though I was scared of being in a cycle of pain again. These are some of the reasons RF works for me:

  1. The coaches are experienced and can work with you to achieve your fitness goals no   matter what your current level of fitness is.

  2. The encouragement from the coaches and members is unique to any training experience I have ever had.

  3. There is a great sense of community among members and coaches.

What was the biggest challenge or change when you first started with RF

Once I had made the commitment to start training at RF my biggest challenge was being fearful of pain.

What were 3 major non-scale victories you experienced with RF?

  1. Increased energy and mood

  2. Mental Clarity

  3. Better sleep

How has your life improved thanks to your time with RF?

Thanks to my time with RF my life has improved dramatically!!!!  Before coming to RF I could not exercise due to pain and everyday activities were hard to do. I spent a lot of my time lying down. I had balance issues and vertigo. I was depressed and resigned to an inactive lifestyle.

After 1 year and 11 months at RF I can exercise pain free and I love it!!!. Coach Karina’s Strength and Balance class for people over 60 has helped me immensely as well as her 1:1 training sessions. I no longer feel the threat of falling and my vertigo is gone. I feel strong for the first time in a long time and this has boosted my confidence. Being able to do everyday activities and to be able to exercise pain free in a supportive environment is priceless!

What are 3 tips, based on your experience, that you’d give to new members of RF to help them see success early on?

  1. Consistency

Keep showing up even on the days when you might not be feeling great. Tell your Coaches how you are feeling. They will work with you to modify your program with whatever you have in your tank on any given day.

  1. Acknowledge your progress however small it might seem.

  1. If you are interested in getting into better shape for any reason you will be helped on your journey by experienced, compassionate, and encouraging people.

If someone is thinking about joining RF, what advice would you give them before beginning their journey?

If you are thinking about joining RF to reach your fitness goals whatever they might be

  1. Make the commitment and set a reasonable goal

  2. Trust that you will be working with experienced qualified Coaches who will help you achieve your goal.

  3. This will take time. Keep showing up and in time you can achieve your fitness goals.
