RF Featured Member: Fenice Duffy

Fenice started her journey with us in an effort to help increase her overall strength. She took the time to ask questions, prioritize her form and technique, and, most of all, kept showing up! Since then, Fenice has become one of our most active RF members who pushes herself to get stronger and better every day. She's friendly, welcoming, and always ready to lend a helpful tip or give another member advice. We are so proud of all of Fenice's continued progress; she's truly a member who gives RF a family feel. Congratulations Fenice, now go get those ab wheels! :D

If there was one thing you could say to your Coach, what would it be?

Words aren’t enough to convey my gratitude!!

Tell us a little about you. Where are you from? Are you a parent? What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Born and (pretty much) raised in Tucson and I’m the oldest of four girls. I’m married with 4 kids, 3 dogs, and 7 chickens! I have a few part time jobs, but when I’m not working I enjoy the gym, going out to eat, or hanging out with friends and family at concerts, hockey/football games or whatever!

What was the moment that made you decide to join Resilient Fitness?

I noticed I was having trouble/pain caring for and lifting my youngest daughter who has many medical needs. I knew I needed to get stronger in order to give her the best possible care.

What is your fitness/nutrition experience prior to RF?

I had very little knowledge in the healthy lifestyles. I had tried diets and some gym work on my own but it never panned out.

What were your fitness habits like before joining RF? Were you already active? Were you new to fitness?

I had no drive to do anything. I was weak, mentally and physically. I deprived my diet of carbs because that’s what I thought was healthy.

Why do you think RF worked so well for you compared to other programs and/or diets?

The RF family is special. They’re welcoming and helpful. We are a group of everyday people who have real lives with jobs and children and are trying to enhance our lives with physical health. Not many of us are there just for looks and no one is there to “beat” or compete with anyone else. And of course, the coaches are knowledgeable and continue to learn and grow to best meet all of our needs with safety and comfort as a priority.

What was the biggest challenge or change when you first started with RF?

It was hard. I started something completely new and felt a little embarrassed and uncomfortable.

What has been your biggest success while attending RF?

I started RF to become stronger and while I accomplish that more and more, my mental health and clarity has improved in ways I didn’t even know I needed.

What were 3 major non-scale victories you experienced with RF?

  1. Being happy and having motivation

  2. Picking up my daughter easily with no pain and being able to move her and care for her

  3. Becoming a role model by example for my son and younger sisters

How has your life improved thanks to your time with RF?

I love having a hobby to look forward to. My physical and mental health have vastly improved and I have made friends to not only share this lifestyle, but other aspects in life as well.

What are 3 tips, based on your experience, that you’d give to new members of RF to help them see success early on?

  1. Keep showing up. It will take some time to see results but you’ll feel them

  2. Form! Don’t worry about loading weight until you have a solid base to build on

  3. Hydrate and stretch. Your body needs care after putting it through those tough workouts!

If someone is thinking about joining RF, what advice would you give them before beginning their journey?

Have a “why”. Think of the reason that will drive you to keep your health a priority.
